A NEW CHAPTER FOR A RURAL STEADING

Located in rural Perthshire, this project converts a redundant farm steading building to create a unique home with strong character and a series of carefully considered internal spaces.

The existing stone walls of the derelict steading are retained, while the former dominant farmhouse is once again given its own setting. A single-storey timber frame extension projects south into the garden, finished in Scottish larch cladding.

An honest architectural approach was central to the design, allowing for a clear distinction between old and new.

By breathing new life into the existing structure, the steading is given a new purpose while maintaining its heritage and character. Both the original building and the new additions are designed to sit comfortably within the landscape, with views across the surrounding countryside.
